It would seem a shame to visit such a historic city (possibly one of the most famous historic cities in the UK) without adding something informative into your Stag weekend in Nottingham or Hen Party in Nottingham.

Nottingham has a long and famous history, most famously Robin Hood and the tales of Robin Hood. There is however other things Nottingham is very famous for that you may have not known until today, which is its cave system.

Known formerly as Tiggua Cobaucc, meaning ‘Place of Caves’ Nottingham has more man made caves than anywhere else in Britain.

Caves

Facts about Nottinghamshire's Caves
  • Nottingham has more man-made caves than anywhere else in Britain.
  • The cave network has Ancient Monument Protection.
  • The area was originally known as Tiggua Cobaucc, meaning ‘Place of Caves’.
  • The first extant reference to Tiggua Cobaucc was in The Life Of King Alfred, by Welsh monk and historian, Asser, the Bishop of Sherborne, who visited Nottingham around 900 AD.

Ghost Walk

  • The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk, runs every Saturday at 7.00 pm
  • Please arrive about 10 minutes before the start time.
  • Starts at ye Olde Salutation Inn, Maid Marion Way.
  • Ends in haunted caves beneath the Inn.
  • Length: 1 1/4 hrs (approx) - about 1 mile
  • Booking not required

For one weekend, Nottingham Castle is transformed into a medieval village where you can enjoy period crafts, archery and jousting on horseback. You might even see Robin Hood and his merry men taking on the Sheriff of Nottingham.
